League One — the week in brief
Reading scored five at Stadium MK on 10 October, with Kyreece Lisbie, Paddy Lane, Jamie Reid and Josh Stokes leading the attacking display. Andy Rinomhota was replaced by Liam Fraser on 90 minutes, Daniel Kyerewaa and Randell Williams came on for Haydon Roberts and Lisbie on 85, and Jayden Brown scored at 86 after Reid made way. Collins scored for MK Dons on 84.
Wigan Athletic went four consecutive league matches without scoring, a run last recorded in December 2018. The 1-0 loss at Stevenage featured the season’s attacking trends, with next to nothing created. The players who spearheaded the 2018-19 turnaround, including Reece James, Antonee Robinson, Nick Powell and Sam Morsy, are no longer at the club.
Kevin Nancekivell has spent much of the last 15 years as a first-team coach at Plymouth Argyle, serving as caretaker manager on five separate occasions, jointly or alone. The 54-year-old also had a short spell as a player at Home Park, making seven substitute appearances for the club he supported as a Devon schoolboy.
Xavier Amaechi scored in the fifth minute of added time as Plymouth Argyle beat AFC Wimbledon 2-1 at Home Park on 10 October, a third home League One win of the campaign. Argyle were without seven-goal top scorer Bim Pepple, who felt hamstring tightness on the Thursday and underwent a scan the following day.
Bradford City drew 0-0 with Leyton Orient at Valley Parade on 11 October in Michael Duff’s first home match in charge. Duff and number two Alex Morris stopped for photographs with supporters in the car park. Adam Phillips missed from close range. A smattering of boos mixed with applause at the final whistle.
Robbie Savage took charge of Peterborough for his first League One match, at Leicester, his first EFL managerial role. Savage played at Leicester earlier in his career and was twice fined there, £10,000 by the Football Association and two weeks’ wages by the club for using a referee.
