Many Tigers fans were trepidatious about visiting the Riverside last night especially considering the 1-4 drubbing the ‘Boro side handed the Hull team at home only a month ago. The home side probably saw an opportunity especially after title rivals Coventry’s loss to Ipswich earlier in the evening .

The match started badly for Hull after another injury saw Ryan Giles leaving the arena to join top scorer Joe Gelhardt and recently returned Belloumi on the ever longer injury list .

That changed after a goal on the 12 minute mark from Darko Gyabi which saw the Tiger’s moving them to within two points of their second place rivals.

The Tigers did well to see the out of form ‘Boro side off with fans raising questions about Hellberg so soon after his glowing start.

It was backs to the wall for most of the rest of the game for the Tigers as the stats show but a spirited team effort starring Regan Slater and Cathal McCarthy (the 19 year olds third appearance on for Giles).

Hull could now be setting their sights on the automatic promotion spots if they can keep this form up.

Data-first football writing

This site is a hobby project run by a former healthcare professional and computing graduate who likes football and data. There's no monetisation agenda, no ads, and no ambition to become the next big football media brand.

What there is: ML-backed match previews, honest accountability when the model gets it wrong, and analysis covering the Championship, League One and WSL that tries to be genuinely data-driven rather than just opinion dressed up in numbers.

Hull City season ticket holder and Leyton Orient follower — both covered on the site, no bias applied.

Posts go up most days during the season. The model's predictions are published before kick-off and the results tracked openly — good weeks and bad ones.

No agenda. No spin. Just the numbers.
