Championship

The Championship’s biggest talking point this week came from further up the football pyramid, as Sunderland made headlines by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in Roberto De Zerbi‘s nightmare managerial debut, with Nordi Mukiele scoring the only goal. It leaves Spurs winless in 14 Premier League games and sliding dangerously toward the second tier — a sobering reminder of how quickly fortunes can change. Meanwhile, the East Anglian derby buildup dominated Championship talk, with Philippe Clement‘s Norwich City transformed into the division’s form side since January, closing to within eight points of the play-offs ahead of Saturday’s clash at Portman Road against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town.

Women’s Super League

The WSL faces a frustrating four-week pause as an extended international window disrupts domestic momentum, with most European nations opting to play only two of the three permitted fixtures — a scheduling disconnect that continues to frustrate clubs and supporters alike. The international scene itself carries genuine intrigue, however: England prepare for a crunch World Cup qualifier against Spain at Wembley, with manager Sarina Wiegman and forward Alessia Russo speaking to the BBC ahead of what could be a defining evening for the Lionesses.

Wales also head into a pivotal double-header against Albania, with coach Rhian Wilkinson urging her side to “show up” and protect their Group B1 lead.
